"The focus of our program is “Youth realizing their dreams”. We are committed to making a difference in the lives of all youth. We are fortunate to be sponsored by an organization called Resources for Human Development Inc. It is a non-profit corporation that has provided social services since 1970. They sponsor over 150 programs in the Philadelphia Area.
Mission Statement: The Trips for Kids Philadelphia program is a not-for-profit organization that provides an opportunity to challenge and foster the human spirit. Our goal is to promote teamwork via the use of volunteers, to teach at-risk youth in the Philadelphia region responsibility and build self-esteem through mountain bike trips. It is a commitment to youth realizing their dreams, appreciating the outdoors, having a ball, and living life to its fullest.
Ever since I started mountain biking, 6 or 7 years ago with a close friend of mine, I have craved those times when I can get away from the hustle and bustle of life and simply ride. Over the years I have ridden with many individuals who are now coming together to support this program because they also love to ride ride and want to give others that opportunity. I have always believed that if we can impact a young person’s life early on we can offer choices in what direction their life will take. Without that choice they will never know what is available to them or how to alter the direction their life will go.
We take rides twice a month from May to October, on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. The Philadelphia area offers a diverse selection of riding venues, from the rocky hills of French Creek, the flat riding of Pennypack Park, Philadelphia’s own Wissahickon Park and many others. All rides will take an average of 8-10 youth and each will be provided with bikes, helmets, gloves, water bottles and energy bars.
We are currently in need of: A storage space for our equipment, gloves, and more volunteers."
